When I was out on that street
nothing could take me back
it was impossibly steep
black cat citation
stone temple doublemint
cold sweet seatbelt
gridlock convenience
a good place to grow up
in memories of my presence
I always wanted to run away
but never did and it was
there that I yet remain
for as long as I live
nothing will make as much sense
as it did that first time
my parents are different people
they couldn't help what happened
an inevitability in a way
I grew up on a cold circle
that matched a hill in town
it was always my fate
As we learn how to better decide
frequent drawbacks become apparent
and we lose who we were once meant to be
